I'm working MAC's huge event for Shop MAC this weekend. Have you guys seen the products yet? They're bright and fun and are totally going to sell out. This is a great collection with colors right on trend and a cute theme (I'm a sucker for a cute theme and packaging!) The collection was released yesterday and I'm thinking the lipsticks are probably are already sold out! I managed to get my hands on Quick Sizzle, the hot pink color I posted about earlier in the week (my fave color from the collection, I wear it with Embrace Me lip liner from the Iris Apfel collection, they're perfect together) and Naughty Saute lipstick, a bright bubblegum pink.

So excited to work the event and get dolled up in the Shop MAC style (above; that hair!) all though I have to say not so much the part where I'm on my feet all day buzzing around non-stop in a crazy swarm of people. But hey, girls gotta get the goods, right? I have fun with all the lovely girls I work with. Makeup artists work hard but we have the funnest job ever!

Eat your way to health & beauty

So yesterday while reading this article on Beautylish, I discovered Kimberly Snyder, celebrity nutritionist. Her blog is full tips on what to eat and what not to eat to live a healthy lifestyle with beauty as a major benefit. Can't wait to get my hands on her book, The Beauty Detox Solution. I've already learned so much from her articles on things like the acne-dairy connection, the importance of reading the ingredients label on cosmetics, and what to eat/avoid for acne. So much valuable information (including recipes, like her famous Glowing Green Smoothie that I made yesterday {above} and loved) and detox tips to get healthy and in turn, reap the beauty benefits!

I can't express enough how important eating healthy is, I know I've tried to change my eating habits since my lactose intolerance has effected my life and it is a process. Since you basically have to change life-long routines, it won't happen over night. But starting with small changes like giving up bad habits like milk and soda, and taking on new good-for-you ones like cooking with coconut oil and eating a lot more greens can change your life. I'm so glad I came across her blog, I look forward to reading her book. She's also a total yoga inspiration, the woman is a powerhouse. Oh, and sign up to receive daily emails full of health and beauty tips too.

Review:

This lip balm is super nourishing, has a great texture and leaves lips really smooth. As a total package design enthusiast, I'm a sucker for something that comes in cute, colorful packaging. I have Sweet Mint and Summer Fruit (this one was on sale for only $2.50 at Target), they both smell amazing. The perfectly shaped sphere glides on so well and since it's a larger size than most stick-shaped balms, it covers both lips at the same time, genius. I'll have to try Lemon Drop this Summer since it has SPF. I like to use them to prep my lips before lipstick (I blot before applying lipstick), it's a great consistency to have in between your lips and color especially if it's a drier formula. Love this balm!

So neon is back. I think that's pretty apparent. It's loud, in your face wardrobe fun. Totally 90's, in a good way. I remember neons being my favorites colors when I was in grade school. I had neon socks that I wore with my beloved clogs... don't judge. Neon's back with a vengeance although a lot classier this time around. Keep it classy with a sophisticated (er, wild?) touch of animal prints.

What's K.I.S.S stand for you ask?

As a former The Office fan (I'm talking the Steve Carrell years) it refers to the advice Michael gave Dwight that all though hurt his feelings, really stuck with him. It means "Keep it simple stupid."

That's seriously exactly what I thought when I saw this beautiful, simple, understated-yet-radiant beauty look from Christian Dior.

Usually couture beauty is over-the-top crazy, abstract madness (albeit, sometimes in the most awesome way) case in point, that distracts from the gorgeous fashion.

This however, this is a breath of fresh air.

You can see skin, living, breathing skin that sets the stage perfectly for some of the most lady-like couture worthy of Grace Kelly herself.

Focus on skin ladies. I always tell my clients, "Skin is the canvas, if it looks good everything else will too." I know, good one, right?

Finally the end to a tough, stressful, sick and weary week and the start to a new one. Still a bit under the weather but treading on! Mostly thanks to the awesome people in my life, one of which is my dear friend Brittany Golightly who consoled my case of the Mean Reds by reminding me to "live life through rose colored glasses." In true Audrey fashion she sent over a snippet from Sabrina and it calmed me down right away. I though I'd pass along the cheer with reminding you to think pink! A reference to another Audrey classic, Funny Face. I could seriously live, learn, and love through Audrey classics. You can't really be under a rain cloud when wearing this fun color. And with Spring almost here, it's time to bust it out! Here's to a better week!

Review:It was time for another review and here it is. I've tried a few new products in the last couple of months. Anything at an attempt to fix my hormonal acne. Which still hasn't cleared up. I'm still doing the natural remedies that you can read about here, but also trying new products to try and make my life less stressful.

I had started using Yes To Carrots body butter on my cuticles and hands and loved it. Especially the almost 100% natural ingredients. So that's when I decided to give these towelettes a try. Mostly I'm disappointed by makeup removing wipes because, well, they don't clean. And you better believe I wear a lot of makeup sometimes. I need to take it all off not just swipe it around my face with a semi-damp wipe. Am I right?

I'm glad to say I wasn't let down by these! I love them. They actually remind me a lot of my favorite makeup remover wipes by MAC (all though these are much pricier and I can't bring myself to buy them often). Maybe it's because they have similar ingredients, the ones listed above. These Yes To Cucumbers wipes are soothing, refreshing and calming, all while removing any awful dirt and daily grime from the work day as well as all traces of makeup. They smell great and don't leave behind a film or residue. Just a fresh, clean feeling. And with a small price tag, they're definitely worth a try.

Hair Trend: Hair Bows

A sick day really sucks all the life out of you. I wish I had the energy to be working, doing a project or truly writing instead of just babbling like I'm doing here. But I guess it's my body's way of keeping me in bed until I start to feel better.

Onto some fun hair styles to distract from my feverish hot and cold symptoms, loopy headedness and achy body shall we?

Say hello to the Hair Bow! Isn't it cute??
Okay, I know you go straight to Lady GaGa but this one is way more casual.
It's simple and easy to do and a cute take on the regular ponytail or bun.

Here's what you'll need:

* A tight ponytail elastic
(throw out that super stretched out one you've had around your wrist for like ever)

* Several firm-grip bobby pins
(the ones in the pink box at Sally's are the best)

* Possibly some fine mist hairspray in case you want to tame some fly aways
(or do like me and embrace the messiness)

These two colors seem quite demure and understated but they're some of my favorites to work with. Together, taupe and blush are subtle, modest, and have such an air of femininity that is irresistible. This Spring's trends are all very colorful and this subdued beauty look is perfect to pair with them.

I'm crazy about these simple pieces by Madewell designed with longer hemlines and sleeves! It's so refreshing to see modest dresses and outfits in stores. Loving all the green! I'm dying for a cute top or jeans in kelly green. Yellow is still on the fashion map too. A mix of fun prints and color blocking are still present, as are cross-body bags and belted waists. I like that crocheted top, the candy-colored flats and sandal wedges and mid-calf skirts. Ah, the warm breezy days of Spring...

When your BFF becomes your Sister

My best friend got married on November 27th and I was honored with the title of Matron of Honor. And it truly was. Being there for her through the journey of bride-to-be was so incredible. To be there to advice her, support and comfort her has been a true joy. It amazes me just how close two friends can get to practically become sisters. As if you share the same blood, same thoughts, same emotions. It has warmed my heart to see how undeniably happy she is in her new marriage and new phase in life.

One of my favorite Matron of Honor moments was beautifying the bride. There's something magical and humbling about having your friend/sister put her trust in your hands. All the commotion subsided and I enjoyed every moment of pampering her. From the swipe of eyeliner to the blending of blush to pats of lipstick, every bit an appreciation of our glamorous tendencies. She looked radiant! {I will share pictures soon} I am so proud of who she is and thankful for how she's been there for me as a friend and sister.

DIY Winter Beauty Treatments: Body Scrub, Exfoliator & Body Butter!

It's that unfortunate time of year when our skin is dry, itchy and flaky, eughh. Let's fight off the Winter blahs with a delicious homemade body scrub, lip and face exfoliator and a perfectly indulgent body butter. You're going to love these! I'm still getting a hang of all this DIY stuff myself so don't think you can't do it if you've never done it before. Most of it is fool-proof and can be achieved in various ways, there's no specific correct way. I am sharing these recipes I found online as my personal preference, they are all credited to their creators. So call up a few friends and have a DIY beauty night! Hope you have fun making and using these pampering treatments.

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cups of brown or raw sugar
6-8 tablespoons of organic unrefined coconut oil
15-20 drops of vanilla essential oil (may be substituted with vanilla fragrance)

Directions:
If your coconut oil is solid at room temperature, briefly warm just enough to aid in the melting the process. Then in a small bowl combine your coconut oil and brown sugar, blending well enough to eliminate any lumps. Then add your vanilla essential oil to the mixture drop by drop, being sure to blend mix after each addition. Once mixed, scrub should be placed in an airtight container and used within six months. Apply your scrub to pre-moistened skin, being sure to massage it in using circular motions.

Ingredients:

1 tsp of coconut oil
1 tsp of raw honey
1.5 – 2 Tbl. of raw granulated sugar
dash of lemon juice

Directions:

Mix these ingredients together to make a sugary paste. Use a soft bristle toothbrush or finger to dip into the scrub. Use soft circular motions across your lips. Rinse with water and apply your favorite lip balm afterwards for soft, silky lips.

* You can also use this exfoliator as a face scrub. Be gentle and stay out of the sun or wear sunscreen after using it on face. She lists the benefits of each ingredient on her blog, check it out. For another spa-worthy treatment of hers go here.

Recipe via A Sonoma Garden | Image by Me

Ingredients:

1 c. olive oil
1/2 c. coconut oil
1/2 c. or beeswax (if using solid beeswax use 2 oz.)
1/2 t. Vitamin E oil (or about 5 capsules cut open and squeezed out) (optional)
20 drops (approximately) essential oil (optional)

Directions:

Combine olive oil, coconut oil and beeswax into a pint sized canning jar. Put this jar into a saucepan and fill the saucepan with water until it comes 3/4 of the way up the canning jar, being careful not to get water into the oil mixture. Put on the stove over medium/low heat. Heat and stir occasionally until melted. Let cool to room temperature either by leaving out or quicken the process by putting into the refrigerator. During the cooling process, put a fork into the jar and stir vigorously every 15 minutes or so. Once at room temperature, add in the Vitamin E and essential oil.

*I made this yesterday because my mother-in-law had made it and I loved it so she taught me how to make my own. It's so moisturizing and not overly oily. It absorbs well and leaves skin silk smooth. And it's great to know that the ingredients in it are all natural. But for that same reason they are perishable, you can store it in the fridge to last longer (it will harden a bit) but room temperature should be just fine for up to 6 months. I'm planning to make these in small jars as Christmas gifts- personal, handmade and so deliciously indulgent! Perfect for gift-giving, this blogger also made printable labels for this lotion, here.

...Good? In my case, not so much. Over the last couple years I have become lactose intolerant. Quite the sad truth. Growing up on whole milk has caught up with me and I no longer can indulge as before. How I wish I could enjoy a huge dollop of freshly whipped cream or a mountain high ice cream sundae or lots of delicious cheese...So what is there to do about the matter? First of all, there is a difference between a dairy allergy and lactose intolerance. You might want to go to the doctor to determine which one you think you are. Thank goodness that now there are several dairy alternatives. Yay! If you're in the same boat as I am, I hope I can be of some help.

As far as milk alternatives go there are almond, soy, rice and coconut milks (among lactose-free milk like Lactaid) that are simply delicious. Substitute any of these milk alternatives in anything you'd normally add milk to. If you love yogurt you'll love kefir. Lifeway's kefir probiotic smoothie drink is so good and is 99% lactose-free and gluten-free. And in my research for butter alternatives there's Earth Balance Vegan Buttery Sticks (which I really want to try out). They also make vegan mayo, spreads and shortening. I'm okay with butter for now but want to know my options for when my body decides to reject that too {that'll be a sad, sad day}. I think I should undertake dairy-free baking next. hhmm...I think I'm going to check out a few dairy-free cookbooks to make the transition to dairy-free easier.

It's been shown that going dairy-free helps improve skin's appearance. If you have persistant blemishes it might help to go off dairy and see if your skin benefits from that. I know that alone is worth the attempt. Beauty is such a motivator! So ladies, I would love to know who's dairy-free and any advice you may have for me that is considering a completely dairy-free diet. Working for M.A.C all these years I've accrued quite the extensive black wardrobe. I love black for a lot of reasons; it's hands down the most flattering color, can be mixed and matched with every color in the spectrum, it's a clean color meaning if you're clumsy and tend to spill or stain like me it's okay and also because you'll most likely always find it available in stores. But what kind of makeup should you pair with this favorite color?

Pretty much any given color, right? But Fall and Winter demand that you keep makeup a bit on the warm side when paired with a black on black outfit to keep your face from looking to stark or pale. A warm, shimmering bronze eyeshadow goes well on different skin tones and eye colors. It brightens in an understated way and pairs nicely with different lip colors. My favorite has got to be a soft peach lip. As seen on the model above, a natural softness is key. Just enough color on the lip to balance out this slightly smoldering eye look. Add a swipe of bronzer or peachy blush to finish off this bronze on black beauty look!

Hello girls, happy 1st of December! How did the year come to an end already? I sure don't know. The hectic month of November is over, lots of exciting happy occasions happened like my best friend's wedding (she made me her Matron of Honor). It was truly a beautiful occasion that I was honored to be a part of and will always remember. Seeing her that happy made me happy :) After fighting off a cold that came on at the absolute worst time- I got to travel for work, make a delicious Thanksgiving dinner with my husband and have a fun girls night out for my friend's bachelorette party. And now I'm finally back in Sacramento for the mean time, enjoying the cool weather, happy to be back in my own bed, decorating the Christmas tree and planning cute gifts that fit our budget.

Like the next girl, I love shiny things. And since sequins are trending there's a legitimate excuse to wear them. My favorite are gold and peach sequins in cute boleros or tank tops that can be layered. Speaking of shiny things, check out the glittery shoes I wore to my friends wedding! Happy Monday, girls! Excuse the lack of posting I've been up to some fun adventures with my partner in beauty, Nicole. We traveled to Santa Barbara to be a part of a beautifully styled shoot as well as fitting in some girl time, of course! So in a total procrastinator move, because since forever ago I've been meaning to do a winged liner tutorial, I went ahead and cheated and made one from a lovely little four step picture how-to I found on Pinterest.

I'm a total winged eye liner enthusiast. I love wearing this look any time, any where. So here's my translation for this how-to, hope you find it helpful.

My Tips:

* If this is your first attempt at liner I recommend you use a gel liner (trust me on this one), like MAC's Fluidline in Blacktrack, instead of a liquid because it is less fluid meaning less messy= you won't want to give up in frustration as easily. Stick with it, practice makes perfect I promise. A damp Q-tip will be your best friend for making corrections, not everyone is blessed with a steady hand.

* If you have a problem with liner smudging, fading or traveling onto your lower lid try these 3 tried & true steps from Yours Truly-

1. Use a shadow primer, always. I like MAC's Painterly Paint Pot.

2. Don't use greasy moisturizers around the eye, it will break down color faster than you can say, "Holy, cat eye!"

3. Lock in that liner by dipping an angled liner brush into a matte pitch black eye shadow (like MAC's Carbon) and tracing your awesome liner job with it. Boom, instant gorgeousness with an all day hold!

Hello and happy weekend! I just had to share this awesome twist on a half moon manicure with you girls! The classic half moon is retro and beautiful, straight out of the 40's but this modern take on it is a bit geometric and entirely cool. A sharp V shape at the base of the nail creates a chevron pattern with any color you like all though a lighter one creates the best contrast. Here's how to create this manicure yourself!

Start by painting nude polish on the bottom of your nail in a rough triangle.

Then, taking a thin, black brush, draw two criss-crossing marks over your nail. You should be drawing over the nude polish, but not leaving any bare nail exposed above the triangle. Then, fill in the rest of the nail with black.

I know we all love our braided hair styles but I think it's time to start phasing them out with the next big thing, twists. twist are easier to do than complicated braids, which admittedly i still struggle with, and can be tucked, rolled or tied into any kind of hair style.

For the twisted crown updo (1) follow the steps in this tutorial. Twists were all over the runways this season, the classic French twist at Marc Jacobs (2) was messy and tied with a silk scarf (get the easy how-to here) while the Lela Rose (3) side twist were neat and minimal. Use a flyway-taming product and fine hair spray to create a sleek look.

To get that pretty Greek goddess hairstyle (4) that works for day or night, follow these steps here, the trick is an elastic headband. Lauren Conrad's (5) simple side twists are my go to style, they look pretty with just enough extra flare when you're hair is down and wavy. Criss-cross your bobby pins to create a string hold and bring hair over to cover the pinning.

For the twisted waterfall half-up/half-down look (6), follow the how-to steps here. Wear twists that are wrapped into a bun updo like the popular picture floating around Pinterst of Sienna Miller (7), this how-to shows you how in 5 easy steps. Don't take hair too seriously and try a fun alternative to twists with low pig tails (8) get the how to here. And as a bonus, I'm really loving a partially twisted crown with a messy updo in the back like this.

Tips & Tricks:

*Flat-ironed (at least from the scalp through the mid-shaft) and thoroughly brush strands so that they're smooth and easier to manage through fingers.

*Healthy looking, shiny hair always looks best in any style, treat it with argan oil, I love this stuff it tames my frizz and smells amazing.

*Stock up on a lot ( i mean like a whole box!) of professional grade bobby pins that are strong and hold their shape for best results. Also, small clear elastic bands are awesome.

I'm a sucker for chic retro pieces like these from Tracy Reese's Spring 2012 collection. I like the way the fashion and beauty all come together. The retro hair in messy victory rolls topped with cute hats and that soft peach lip are so lovely together. The clothes are breezy and flowy not up-tight or fussy. There's a mixture of florals, neons, basics and pretty details, a little something for everyone. I'm loving the strappy platforms and parasols too! The touch of sheer materials really add a feminine quality to each garment. Which ones are your favorites?

How-To: White Swan Makeup

I'm so inspired by the soft and beautiful beauty look of the white swan from the movie Black Swan. As the white swan Natalie's character wear neutral colors, mostly soft pinks, whites and dusty greys. The makeup she wears goes along with this color palette nicely with a hint of soft smolder on the eyes, a whisper of pink on cheeks and a bitten peachy pink tint on lips. It's ballet, it's feminine, it's romantic and innocent. Much unlike her other side, the black swan.

This how-to is great for as an everyday makeup look and even as part of your Halloween costume if you're choosing to be the White Swan this year. I would totally opt for pretty versus scary. Here's my how-to:

Warm Up:

* Start by creating a flawless complexion with your favorite foundation & concealers

* Dab on a soft pink or peach mineral blush onto apples of cheeks, contour if you'd like

Act 1:

* Apply a good shadow base and sweep a neutral champagne shadow onto the entire lid

* Slowly darken the crease by first starting with a warm taupe color and then darkening with greys

* With a pearlescent shadow in ivory, highlight the brow bone, inner corners and tops of cheekbones

* Apply crease color slightly extended out past the outer corners to achieve a soft winged look

* Also dust some a soft grey onto bottom lash lines to smolder it a bit

Act 2:

* Line top and bottom lash lines with a precision liquid or felt marker tip liner, go lightly on the bottom

* Connect your lines on the inner corners, as seen in this picture above

* Curl lashes and apply one coat of mascara to top and bottom lashes

* Apply a wispy pair of full false lashes, you can choose some that flare out at the ends if you'd like

* Apply two coats of mascara to top lashes

Final Act:

* Groom and fill in brows with a brow pencil, extended the tail end outward

* Stain lips with a peachy lip tint and seal with a matte lip balm

Okay I know I just finished posting a color combo but I couldn't resist! Hot pink and lime green is so fun, totally bright and mood-enhancing, I think. How to: Metallic Collar Button Up

You will need:Button up shirt2 ft x 6 inches gold (or color of your liking) fabricScissorsFabric glue
Pen
Paint brush

1. Unbutton your collared shirt and lay it flat on top of your gold fabric.

2. Laying about an 1.5 inches from the edge, loosely trace around the collar.

3. Cut out the gold fabric that will be used as your collar.

4. Use a paint brush to evenly distribute the glue onto the side of your collar that will be visible when worn.

5. Place your fabric onto the collar and press down to make sure the fabric is not bumpy. Let dry for 10 minutes.

6. Flip your shirt and repeat step 4 and 5 to the opposite side of the collar.

7. Apply glue to the ends of your gold fabric at the collar’s tips. Fold back and let dry.

8. Wear it well!

I thought I'd start posting some beauty color combos to inspire new ways to combine eye and lip colors! I know I get bored with my everyday colors so why not try some new combinations to brighten up your day? I love how complimentary colors pop and brighten your eye color (just look at the models' eyes above!) and even your teeth like how a blue-based red can. All these little tricks will have you looking and feeling Oh, so pretty. First up, is this upcoming Spring's go-to color, yellow! There are quite the variety of yellows including canary, neon, mustard and gold. I'm slowly breaking out of my color comfort zone by buying some staple Fall pieces in yellow like my mustard cardigan and jeans (love them). So I thought yellow eyeshadow would be next. As proved in the picture above it looks amazing when paired with a punch of coral. Coral looks amazing on literally every skin tone and can be used on lips and cheeks, major time saver. A stain seems to look neater than a glossy lipstick when it comes to a bright lip and lasts a lot longer. Hope you're inspired to wear this pretty beauty color combo!

Review: This hand scrub suds up nicely and makes your hands feel pretty clean while exfoliating softly and leaving behind a nice crisp grapefruit fragrance. I wish it were a bit more grainy with coarser salt but I do like that it's moisturizing. It doesn't feel like it strips and doesn't leave my hands feeling tight or itchy from dryness. I massage it into my cuticles (it says to do it for 60 seconds) and tops of hands as part of my at-home manicures to prep them before polish. Then I finish it off with the softening lotion that has paraffin before I go to bed. It isn't too oily and smells great. This is a power duo, a used both these products for a week straight and my cuticles never looked better. I just have to keep up the routine to reap the best benefits.

Whimsical, airy, fairytale, delightful, chic and radiant could describe the beauty and fashion from LV's Spring 2012 runway show. Look at how utterly darling those dramatic full lashes are! There must be at least three pairs of faux lashes stacked on top of each other. Just brilliant. I'm a sucker for a wide-eyed doll look, And I like the omission of winged eyeliner in this look, it's nice to see a change.

I like the slight mod appeal in this beauty look with all the focus on the eyes. A subtle taupe shadow contours the crease while full brows frame the face so perfectly. The skin! It's positively aglow, who wouldn't want theirs to look like this everyday? It's all about highlighting- the inner corners of the eyes, the bridge of the nose, cheekbones and cupids bow.

The hair was swept up into a messy french twist and adorned with a simple encrusted headband or dainty tiara. How whimsical! The models rode an all white carousel and carried some to-die-for bags while donning cute peter pan collars and dresses in dreamy sheer fabrics. Loving all the Spring eye candy!

How pretty is this underwater-inspired Chanel look? Pearl embellishments that mimicked piercings, a wash of shimmering pearlized pigment on the lids and a natural mouth made up the Spring 2012 runway beauty look. Winged liner, in waterproof of course, along with the season's favorite wet look hair trend took center stage. Hair was gathered in slightly messy chignons and adorned with pins topped with delicate pearls to fit in with the under the sea theme.

The fashion is drop dead gorgeous....ruffles, feathers and delicate ultra-feminine details galore! They even carried sea shells for clutches. The show was so inventive and unexpected.

How-to: Fishtail Braid Trend

My current favorite hair trend is the fishtail braid! It's taken the place of the conventional 3 piece braid and blown every one away with how simple it is to do and yet how intricate the finished look is! Tutorial here. But I'll explain it here...

How-To:
*Divide hair into two main sections

*Then take about a 1/2 inch piece from each section (from the rear)

*And alternate weaving them into the middle like you would a normal braid.

That's it!

Tips: The smaller the pieces you grab from each section the more piece-y the braid will look. Keep the pieces tight as you braid so they don't slip out and you have to start all over. I like tying the ends with a small clear elastic, then pulling the sides of the braid to mess it up a bit.

I love wearing this braid simple or dressing up. You can wear it to one side, half up or as part of an updo. Love it kind of disheveled and loose, very easy to do on different hair types. Prada Spring 2012: Retro meets Modern

Prada has my heart beating at a fast pace right now. I love everything! All these gorgeous garments with hot rod print and 50's floral, the simple understated retro beauty look, the handbags, the shoes, the jewelry..!!! Ok have to catch my breath...So amazing. It's awesome overload! Definitely one of my faves from the season so far.

The beauty look is beyond simple, just a swipe of black liner in the water lines, curled but bare lashes and smooth natural skin with a dab of contour on cheekbones. A pale pink lipstick was dabbed on lips, most likely using fingertips for that barely-there look. Brows were toned down a bit with a lighter color than hair. And as for hair it was side-parted, slicked down on the top and sides with bouncy ringlets at the bottom. Super simple. Love it all!

Told you they were awesome! It's like Mad Men meets Grease. It's the perfect blend of retro and modern. Modest lady-like looks for Spring have my heart.

What do I have to sell to buy one of these bags? My car? I think I'm okay with that. Swoon.

Backstage Beauty: Anna Sui Spring 2012

I have to admit that so far I'm not super impressed with very many Spring 2012 beauty looks. I feel that they're rather safe and not all that interesting and innovative. However, you know I'm always a sucker for a retro beauty look, enter Anna Sui. I also really like Marc Jacobs' simple, purposely disheveled retro beauty look, I'll post about that one too. Anna's backstage beauty look is glam and easy to do yourself.

Here's how:

Hair: Use a volume building product on damp hair then blow dry with a round brush.

Create a deep side part and divide hair in three sections of your head, both sides and the top.

Curl small pieces towards your face instead of away (this will give you waves coming forward, totally retro) then pin in place until they cool.

Do your makeup while you wait, then let all the curls loose and lightly run a brush through hair to comb them out into full, soft 40's waves.

Mist with a light hold hairspray.

Makeup: Use a light foundation mixed with a bit of highlighter to give some luminescence to skin.

Pat McGrath used Olay's Sculpting Blush in Lush Berry on cheeks and lids for a monochromatic look.

Apply it softly to the tops of cheekbones and a bit onto temples as well.

White liner in the bottom water line creates the doll-eyed look and finish with two coats of mascara.

Oh, how I love the lips! The color is perfect, bright but not too bright and with just the right amount of deep crimson pigment.

McGrath blended CoverGirl's Runway Collection Lip Perfection in Tempt & Hot with Anna Sui's lipstick in No. 461. Top off with gloss if you want.

Nails: A bright candy apple red polish is all you need. It's a tried and true look that conjures up old-Hollywood starlets and you can't ever go wrong with that. My favorite is OPI's Big Apple Red. Wear Fall's nail trend and create a half-moon manicure with this color for the ultimate retro look.

How to fix hormonal acne breakouts with natural remedies

A reader recently emailed me about how she's been "breaking out like crazy" almost out of no where. Her story went on to describe the exact situation that I am in with my skin; the horrible breakouts during and around that time-of-the-month that don't ever seem to go away before yet another breakout happens, so much spent money on cleansing products and trips to the aesthetician only to see no major positive changes in her skin.

We exchanged emails and I told her how much I sympathized with her because I was going through the exact same problem, hormonal acne, gasp! (dun-dun-duunnn....) I recommended some products and tools but still felt like I needed to do some major research to understand what was really happening underneath our skin. "What the heck is happening?" seemed to be the question on both our minds. At a loss for not knowing what to do because we had been blessed with good skin all our lives until now (she 25, me 26) we settled for thinking we were doomed. Would we have to stop wearing our beloved makeup products, stay away from cameras, go into hiding and possibly change our names??

I'm not talking about your normal monthly-occurring acne, I mean the kind that comes up suddenly and won't go away when normally you have very regular clear skin. Hormonal acne happens when your hormones are imbalanced mostly due to a major change like going on or coming off BCP. The pill messes with your hormones in a ~~big~~ huge way. I don't believe it necessarily matters how long you've been on it just that it has once been in your body- moving things around, adjusting this and that, adding that plus this where once everything was happening all on its own in a natural way, of its own occurrence.

So what can be done to fight the nasty breakouts?

After several hours of reading in different forums I kept coming across countless people in the same situation. All of us seeking an answer, we'd do anything to see a change and get back our smooth, even-toned, beautiful skin. I was looking for a natural answer to my skin problem, something that would help from the inside out because that is where the root of the problem is. Our skin is a reflection of what is happening inside. Our diet, hormones, stress level and weight are all factors in the appearance of our skin. So investing in expensive sometimes abrasive topical products can only do so much and can possibly lead to irreversible damage, adding even more to the problem.

The same few natural remedies were floating around, all with positive results and rave reviews. Here are my results from my search for a hormonal acne solution.

These miracle oils will do your skin good. Use them directly on the skin, I apply them with a cotton ball at night. That way it soaks in over night when skin regenerates and is most likely to soak it all up. Vitamin E is good for healthy skin and hair, I think everyone knows that, no? Coconut oil does it all- moisturizes, heals and repairs, softens (because of lauric acid it helps even out texture and smooth skin) fights free-radicals and is great for hair too. Tea tree oil is great to dab on pimples, it's a natural antiseptic and it helps cut down on redness. Use it instead of benzoyl peroxide that can be too harsh and over-drying, a problem that can spiral out of control quickly. If you have oily skin and keep stripping it of natural oils the more your skin will produce because it thinks it's not getting enough. Tricky cycle to be in, right? Jojoba oil works on the surface of the skin to help regulate oil production. It "tricks" the skin into thinking it has "just-the-right-amount" of natural oils and therefore will stop over-producing oil to keep up. Don't be intimidated by oils, girls. I can't stress enough how beneficial they are for great skin, hair and nails. They've done it all for centuries and they do it all now.

Now the good stuff. Supplements will get to the root of the problem from the inside out. You first have to figure out what your imbalance is in order to solve the problem, of course. In this case, the problem is hormones all out of whack. These supplements will help get them back in check. Vitex, aka chaste tree berry extract, is one that I saw countless reviews on swearing it had changed their lives. Needless to say I got my hands on it asap. Vitex is made from the fruit/berry of the chaste tree and is used to balance progesterone and estrogen. It works wonders for regulating your menstrual cycle; it shortens it if it's too long of a period, improves PMS and helps your body regain it's natural balance after going off BCP. Vitex is also great if your TTC, it increases fertility and regulates ovulation. This litte natural extract will help with practically any kind of female issue. I read from several people's experience taking it that it worked as quickly as 2 weeks (take it at least for a month to see full results)! I'm on day 3 and so excited to see what it can do for me. No need for synthetics here! There are so many natural options out there, take some time to research whatever your struggling with before settling for a prescription for anything.

Fish oil and any omega 3, vitamin B complex, zinc and folic acid are all there to improve your skin all you need to do is take them. I know that sounds easier said than done because I tend to procrastinate even though I know they'll do me good. It helps to set the pills aside in a little container or pill box to take every day. If I see them out on the counter I'm most likely to take them. Set reminder alarms if you're forgetful and drink plenty of water with them. Start taking a low dose first to give you body time to adjust then proceed increasing the dosage within a week.

Now the part that may be difficult. By the word "Low" I mean, none. Um, what?? I know, so hard right? These 3 foods hinder your skins health. Too much caffeine is dehydrating and effects blood vessels, milk has hormones that increase sebum production and effect skin cell turnover (yogurt is okay though it has probiotics and is easier to digest), artificial sweeteners and refined sugars have no nutrients at all and make it difficult for your body to break down and then has to deal with storing the junk that can show up through your skin, it also messes with your blood sugar levels. Opt instead for natural unrefined sugars like raw honey, raw black molasses and unrefined brown sugar. Stevia and organic agave nectar are also natural alternatives.

Moving on to what to drink. I have cut out cow's milk completely and only drink almond and coconut milk. Every so often soy milk and lactose-free milk too. I've become lactose intolerant within the last few years and all though I thought it'd be impossible to cut dairy out of my life it hasn't been that bad. Luckily for those of us that can't handle dairy, there are a lot of alternatives now. I feel so much healthier by making this change, it's great to see positive feedback from my body. Apple cider vinegar was another thing that popped up all over the forums of people searching for a natural remedy for hormonal acne. Apple cider vinegar is an antiseptic that works in many ways. ACV has good-for-you vitamins and minerals, improves circulation, detoxifies the body (and the beta carotene fights free-radicals), helps burn calories and improves metabolism and clears acne. It also helps balance your body's Ph level, that is a biggie. To get these benefits you can start by taking 1 Tbl. a day in water then increase to 3 Tbl. Applied topically it removes dull, dry skin revealing a new soft, glowing complexion. It also helps fade blemishes and clean out pores as well as heal sunburns. Water of course is a given and omega 3's can be found in walnuts, soy beans,winter squash, fish and flax seed (another secret sworn-by food).

Whew, lots to know but it helps to be informed when it comes to finding a solution, I promise it's all worth it. Changing your diet is crucial to seeing results, don't expect your skin to clear up on its own with out any help. You've probably noticed meat has not been brought up as any of the beneficial foods because it isn't. I'm not saying going vegetarian is the only way, portion control is key, I think. Don't let eating meat get in the way of eating healthy, meat shouldn't take center ~~stage~~ plate. Fruits, vegetables and grains will do more for you. Exercise helps out immensely as well. It helps me control my stress level, gives me lots of energy and makes me feel strong. Good all around!

And finally, the products. The things that we can get our hands on at any given time and begin to use immediately. Not all products are created equal, I think we all know that. Some of the expensive ones don't work nearly as well as the cheaper options and the ones that have few but very important key ingredients work better that those with a long list of unpronounceable ingredients. Skin products don't have to be scientifically complicated to work, our skin is actually pretty low maintenance until we come along and mess with it. There are 3 basic products that will help clear your skin, an antibacterial face wash, a scrub and a light toner. Every other product is an add on and is more specific to your skin type, like your moisturizer, night cream and correctors.

I've also included a face cleansing brush because it helps exfoliate, getting rid of dead surface skin cells that cause clogged pores/blackheads, speeding up the regeneration process. I like The Body Shop's Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash (the whole tea tree line is great, I also use the blemish fading night lotion and skin clearing lotion). Noxzema's Clean Blemish Control Daily Scrub is great because it has just enough grit to it, not too abrasive and it has salicylic acid to fight break outs. A light moisturizer with salicylic acid is a great option too, I use it at night. A light toner should be just that, it's not meant to strip your skin of the good oils. I just started using Avalon Organic's Vitamin C Balancing Facial Toner. It has all natural ingredients, no added colors, fragrances or dyes. It balances skin's natural moisture and protects against free-radicals too.

Here's my daily skin regimen: I use the wash and toner twice a day, morning and night. In the morning I follow it up with a light moisturizer/ spot treat with tea tree oil and at night I use an oil and spot treat. I use the scrub and brush with cleanser about every other day, but you can also use it daily of course. All of these products are attainable at under $10 each. I got my cleansing brush from Sally's but the mechanical ones I've heard are awesome just more of an investment. The toner and scrub are at target and the tea tree line is at The Body Shop.

I hope this post helped answer any questions, doubts and settle mixed feelings or frustration. You are so not alone in this! I wish the best for all of you that are struggling with this issue like me, I know it stinks but there is good news! It'll get better. Spring 2012 Fashion Color Trend: Green & Yellow

Kelly green took center stage on the runways at NYFW. It transitioned into a variety of greens like mint and chartreuse then into mustard, marigold, canary, and full blown neon yellow. I'm loving all of these colors! I've been craving something kelly green for a while and this trend validates that. I also really like yellow and have recently started breaking out of my box and buying clothes in warmer tones of yellow. My favorites from these collections are the floral print Karen Walker dress, the trousers at L.A.M.B and J. Crew, all the mint outfits (I can't choose!), and the yellow Rodarte and Christian Siriano dresses. I'm going to keep shopping outside of my usual comfort colors and expand my Spring wardrobe with fun colors like these. Which ones are your favorites?

What I'm Liking From the Spring 2012 Runways

Are you girls having as much fun as I am looking at all the new Spring fashion?? I love that color blocking is still shining bright in vibrant hues like chartreuse, coral, sapphire, neon yellow and balanced out with neutrals like tan, beige and white. There's also a strong retro presence (still) in the silhouettes left over from Miu Miu and Marc Jacobs. Like at Anna Sui, where the 40's were the major inspiration for cuts and accessories. Zac Posen and Oscar de la Renta also touched on the era with beautiful sheer flowing gowns accessorized with wraps and feathered skirts, hourglass silhouettes and major lady-like appeal.

Whether it's more casual or red carpet, ultra-feminine looks are making a statement. You'll notice from these pictures alone that cinched belted waists are everywhere (the occasional drop waist too), making curves more pronounced. As well as soft flowing fabrics, pretty pretty details like the crocheted dress at Oscar de la renta or the glimmering print on that Rachel Zoe dress (which I totally love). Embrace femininity and you can't go wrong!

Ruche's Fall Look book, "The Industry"-A Professional Fall Wardrobe, totally caught my eye for the simple fact that I love to see outfits that are cute, flattering and still professional . It's something you don't see too often. Some of us spend way too much precious time deciding what the heck to wear on an interview, to a client meeting or work event. These are some of my favorite outfits from the look book that includes 18 different outfits named after professional working titles. The Industry also has the most amazing colorful accessories and shoes for Fall that could instantly brighten and liven up any outfit.

I'm really into skirts. I think the ~~older I've gotten~~ more of an adult I've become, the less I want to rely on jeans. I just think there's a certain point where jeans aren't suitable for every single occasion like when you're a teenager. Sad story, but true. Skirt are so versatile- they can be dressed up or down, are really comfortable, especially in hot weather and come in a lot of color and style options.

If you need help building a professional wardrobe, here are some of the basic pieces I find essential:

Bottoms-

A midi-length pleated skirt

To-the-knee pencil, chiffon or lace skirt

Maxi skirt

Wide-leg trousers

Slim-cut pants, corduroys or black stretch denim

Leggings and tights in dark colors

Tops-

A simple button-up blouse

Blouse with bow or ruffle detail

Cropped blazer

Cardigans in different colors

Dresses-

The LBD

A floral-print dress

A dress with cap sleeves and ruffle detail

A dress that looks like separates

As far as prints and patterns go, stick mostly with florals, polka dots and stripes in subdued colors (the occasional brights are always welcomed) that way you have more flexibility to mix-and-match. And shoes should be comfortable! I like a simple wedge, nothing too strappy, can work with several different outfits. I also love T-strap mary janes, loafers and lace-up booties. A heel should be 3-3 1/4 inches because there's almost nothing worse than reaching that moment in a busy work day when you think to yourself, "Why did I wear these shoes again?!"

I hope this helps, this is just what works for me so experiment with lengths that flatter your body type and height before you buy. Mix-and match things in the dressing room, that's always fun!

Glitter Manicure Inspiration + How-To

My version of Cindy's sponged glitter tip mani with out the sponge. Try not to stare at my gnarly cuticles, they're awful I know, eek. I used China Glaze Refresh Mint and Sephora's Spark-tacular!

How-To:

*Let the base color dry completely then apply the glitter top coat on the width of the tips only (from side to side).

*Do two coats at the tips letting them dry in between then another painting towards the cuticle (only until the half way point of the nail) so that it looks like it's fading downward.

*Use a good top coat and done! Try it out, it's so easy and looks like you paid to get it done.

Check out this upcoming glitter line for the holidays (it's the Muppets collection, love Rainbow Connection! first one on the left, bottom row) from OPI, released this November. These would be great to try this style manicure with. Have some sparkly fun!

DIY Honey Cuticle & Lip Balm | Via Le Petit Happy

Fall is nearly here and that means dealing with dry, flakey skin, um not so fun. Here's a quick fix to keep you super soft and smooth! This DIY balm I found over at Le Petit Happy is easy to make and a great all-in-one balm. Slather it on lips, dry cuticles (my main problem) and elbows. It's all natural and can be poured into a cute tin to carry around. All though it's a good idea to store it in the fridge when you're not using it to keep it fresh.

DIY Honey Cuticle & Lip Balm

1.5 ounces beeswax

3 ounces apricot kernel oil or almond oil

1 tablespoon honey

How-To:

Melt the wax and oil in the microwave (a glass measuring cup with a spout works best).

Stir in the honey and pour into small tins with lids (like Altoid tins).

Double the recipe to make a larger batch.

Okay, it's been forever since I've updated and hope this post will make up for it. It's quite the big announcement!...as the title says I am the newest associate of Nicole Deanne & Associates a Bridal Hair & Makeup beauty team in OC! I'm seriously beyond thrilled to share the great news with all of you. It's been in the works for a while and thought it was about time to post about it.

Nicole is the most amazing person to work with and have as a friend, we have such a blast together! She's talented beyond belief and is an incredibly hard worker. I look forward to learning all I can from her and being an asset in the killer team she's put together! I am still in the transition of moving to OC all though I do my best at spending the most of my time partially living and working here. Kiss and Tell: Spill Your Beauty Secrets!

I know we all have at least a few up our sleeves. Handy, tried and true favorite beauty tips + tricks that we keep up our sleeves on the daily. I know I've come across some online that I tried, loved and are now a part of my routine. Some that my mother taught me and some that I've come up with on my own too. So spill, which one(s) do you think are the best yet?

Here are some of my best beauty secrets to encourage you girls to share yours.

*Your Mother is Right: Always wash your face before you go to bed. Always.

*Fight the Rays (& wrinkles): Wear sunscreen of at least SPF15 on your face and neck everyday.

*Fake It: Apply a sunless tanning lotion to face 1-2 times a week for a natural looking tan that will help hide uneven skin tone.

*Wash, Rinse, Repeat: Avoid breakouts and clogged pores, keep makeup brushes clean. I can't stress this one enough. Also, do your skin a favor and throw out any sponge you have!

*Easy on the Suds: When washing your hair keep shampoo (preferably a sulfate-free one) on the scalp only, there's no need to scrub the length of the hair. It strips color and good, natural oils. The suds make there way down when rinsing anyway.

*Toss the Talc: It's okay to refresh your 'do with talc but it doesn't belong on your face (in my opinion). Pressed powders have tons of talc that give face a dull, matte appearance and whether it really does clog pores or not it doesn't make for a a nice finish. Opt for sheer mineral powders instead. (I love MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish Natural and recommend it to anyone. It's a secret weapon product.)

*You Are What You Eat: Eat healthy and your skin and hair will thank you for it. Also, if you lack vitamins and/or want to fix skincare issues from the inside out take fish oil, collagen, vitamin C and vitamin E. I've seen great hair & nail results from taking collagen.

*Save your Ends: To avoid damage, breakage, split ends and all that yucky stuff, curl your hair starting at the roots then down towards the ends last. That way the least amount of heat is at the ends and the volume is built at the top, win-win!

*Your Skin Gets Thirsty Too: Hydrating facial mists are becoming more and more popular because they're well, amazing! Moisturizers so good when you put them on but don't always provide enough hydration for the entire day. Mists with vitamins, minerals and good-for-you extracts like cucumber, chamomile and aloe will do wonders for your complexion. Beauty on-the-go is the best!

An Audrey Hepburn-Inspired 'Do

As you all know I am inspired by everything Audrey. Her films speak to me on so many levels, the fashion, beauty and talent are all so overwhelmingly beautiful to me. A while back I did a shoot {posted here as well} for Nonpareil Magazine, a DIY E-zine for bridal inspiration. I came up with the concept of doing a shoot inspired by Audrey in Breakfast at Tiffany's where myself and a few other talented friends got together to do a step-by-step beauty editorial. Sadly, since then Nonpareil is no longer online. I don't know if they will be back up or not.

I really wanted to share the shoot with you girls {for those that haven't seen it yet and again for those who might have} because it means so much to me. I absolutely love how everything turned out. There's also a how-to for this makeup look that I might share later as well, so look out for it. If you're like me, you might not think class when thinking of pigtails. But since anything that Audrey touches is class, these are for sure the way to go if you're going to wear them. Look, how darling?? How could you resist?

Thanks to Hayley Anderson Photography for shooting, Chelsey Jackson for styling the hair and my beautiful friend Brittany for being the lovely model. As well as being a loyal Audrey follower like myself, she has such the inspiring blog, you must read it.

How-To:

1. Section + Tease: Create a side part and section hair by bringing forward about 2 inches of fringe {or bangs} at the hairline. Pick up a 2 inch thick section at the top of the head, spray the under side with a styling spray and tease at the roots. Bring the piece down and comb over lightly to smooth out any kinks.

2. Twist + Pin: Leaving the fringe pieces out, divide the top section of hair, twisting then pushing slightly upwards to create volume at the crown. Secure with bobby pins.

3. Tie+ Wrap: Make two ponytails at the nape of the neck with the bottom half section of hair {include the front fringe now by tucking behind your ears} and tie with thin elastics. If you want, you can wrap thin pieces from the under side of each pigtail to cover the elastic, like we did.}

4. Smooth + Curl: Wrap the ends of the ponytails around a 1 1/2 inch curling iron and set with a medium hold hairspray.

5. Adorn: This is just a little extra step to show how you can dress this hair style up. Use a sparkly brooch {like we did} a cute headband or flower tucked into the twist to make this a party look.

6. Voila! A few spritz of a setting hairspray and you're all done. This look is great for an everyday casual look or even for a special occasion like a wedding. If you have curly hair, round brush it the night before and if you have fine, limp hair use a thickening shampoo + conditioner the day you're going to wear this hair style.

Product Review: Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips

Review: Okay so I know most of you have either seen or perhaps already tried these nail strips but thought I'd help those who haven't by reviewing them. I bought and put them on on my birthday {I love houndstooth! It's very Rock Steady Gwen} and they lasted until a week later when I wanted to cut my nails so I took them off {I can't stand having long nails.} They didn't chip at all and I really abuse my tips from day to day.

The application was quite easy, like a regular manicure it's important to thoroughly clean, buff, file and shape nails for best results and long wear. All the necessary steps are in the directions. The $8.50 kit comes with 16 strips in various sizes, a file with 3 sides and an orange sticks to push back cuticles and help lay the strips down. I liked the the strips had a bit of a stretch to them, that made it easy to cover most of the nail. They also have a natural sheen to them, not super shiny but shiny enough. I don't know how they would do with a top coat I imagine it'd fine. I have a few left over that I think I'll wear as part of another manicure where I wear the design only on my ring fingers and solid colors {or glitter} on the rest of my fingers. I loved wearing them! They're fun and very long wearing. I got a lot of compliments too. I would definitely buy them again, they have a lot of fun patterns and colors.

As a bonus I felt that the strips strengthened my nails and when I took them off {I'll give you a tip on how to do that below} I found long, strong nails underneath. Something that is usually hard for me to get considering they're pretty weak from years and years of acrylics. The strips had served as a great barrier from chipping and breaking. Unlike regular nail polish, the strips don't flake at all and the adhesive is surprisingly strong {all though it didn't seem like it when you peel them off the backing} I was expecting them to peel off easily but they never did even at the very end of the week. They would've definitely lasted through the 10 days as advertised.

Feedback: They aren't all the right size, after all it would be impossible to get all the different nail bed shapes. But for the most part I found them to fit well enough. It took a little bit of practice to get them on straight. The trick is to center it at the base of your cuticle first then press the sides down. I used my trusty cuticle nipper to trim any edges that overlapped my cuticles and that worked perfect.

Okay, now for that tip I promised. The easiest way to get them off is to soak each finger in acetone for about 10 seconds then use an acetone soaked cotton ball to rub away the strip. This was the easiest way to get them off because with just an acetone soaked cotton ball took for ever.

Hi Ladies! The weekend is almost here and I wanted to share something fun for you to try! This Nails Trend post features the sparkling, glittering Oh, so fab work of Cindy from Hungry Girl Por Vida. I'm a new follower of her blog that is full of delicious recipes and photography.

After reading her About and finding out we both have a weakness for green jasmine tea & chai, writing, baking and never quite feeling like an adult {whatever that means} I just knew I'd found a new kindred blog friend! She also blogs about her favorite beauty trends which, Hello! we all know I simply can't resist. Like this one for example, that I just had to pass along. She was kind enough to approve me sharing it with all you darling readers♥

Like almost every beauty-obsessed gal out there, I too have a love for glitter and this glitter tip mani makes all my dreams come true. It's multi-glitter reminds me of confetti at a birthday party! Anyway, I won't delay the how-to any longer, here it is in Cindy's words. Enjoy!

*Paint on 2 coats of your color of choice on CLEAN and DRY nails. Allow base color to dry completely.

*Dot a small amount of glitter polish onto a scrap of paper (I used a Post-It). Use a small amount so it doesn’t dry out, thus wasting precious glitter polish.

*Using a small piece of make-up sponge, dab glitter polish onto tip of nail. Continue to dab onto tips–heavier at the very tip of the nail to create a gradient look–until the very tip is completely covered in glitter. This layer will dry fairly quickly.

*Finish with a coat of quick-dry top-coat of your choice. This will allow your freshly polished nails to last longer. Clean-up skin around your nail with a remover-soaked q-tip.

Review: I recently purchased this mascara with only some knowledge of good reviews on the regular Falsies not the Flared. I didn't even know there was a Flared version. Anyway, I thought it was a great concept and after seeing they had it in Waterproof {usually Waterproof formulas are drier so they dry faster and allow the curl to set better than wetter formulas that are heavier and weigh curled lashes down} and only $5.49, I decided to give it a try.

I really liked it from the very first swipe. I can usually tell right away if the mascara is going to work for me and this one had a great formula. The first thing I noticed was the wand. It has a flexible notch near the brush that bends easily, this is genius! It's almost like it's spring-loaded, it allows the bush to contour to your lashed, typical straight wands press up against the lashes but this one swipe sproduct on with out that added pressure that I think inevitability weighs them down and kills the curl.

I'm telling you, this is the first mascara ever to keep the curl in my lashes!! I was amazed that seconds after I applied it they were still curled but thought, "Meh, they'll fall down in a minute I know it" But was pleasantly surprised when they didn't. The formula stays soft not brittle which means no flaking and that's a big deal for me and it can easily be layered. I'm so excited to have discovered this mascara and will continue to use it.

Feedback: The brush itself is not as spoon-shaped as the original Falsies one. It's ever so slightly curved, fuller on the outer edge only and flat on either side. I wish it were a bit fuller on both the inner and outer curved edges so grab lashes a bit better. I don't care for the flat sides either.

Also, the waterproof formula is a bit crumbly when getting off. A good eye makeup remover will do the trick, not just water and cleanser. Because it does dry quickly it tends to clump if you don't separate lashes right away. But it's nothing extreme and nothing worse than other drug store brands I've tried.

I realized I get bored with my manicures when I only use one color so to liven things up I've started randomly painting one nail on each hand a different color. This time around I did mint and lavender with a coat of sparkles, just because. Hope you're inspired to try this trend this week!

*Mani Tip: To avoid those annoying bubbles under your nail polish {you can probably see them in this picture actually, aaagghh} DO NOT SHAKE the bottle. I've learned this the hard way. You can hit the bottle on your palm but no more than 3 times, if you notice bubbles rise to the top of the bottle let them settle before starting your manicure. This will save you a lot of grief.

The most flexible hair accessory is hands down the headband. Long scarves, elastic bands, braided fabric, chain links, shiny plastic or pretty ribbon- they come in lots of styles. These celebrity-inspired looks give us inspiration on how to wear our favorite hair accessory in tons of creative ways. Wear the headband a la Nicole Richie, the Queen of Headbands! This lady can rock a headband like no one's business. With bangs or with out, gypsy chain link head pieces or cute 60's polka dot scarves- she loves her headbands. She's the definition of boho chic and gives us the confidence to try something out of our comfort zone.

Call it preppy or sophisticated the headband a la Blair Waldorf has taken over! There must be an entire headband department on Gossip Girl haha. She wears the headband in feminine fabrics like satin, silk and chiffon tied into bows or in a knot low on the neck. Blair shows us how to wear it like a lady.

LC has worn headbands for quite a bit but keeps reinventing how she wears them to keep them looking fresh and new. She dresses up her long wavy locks with skinny bands worn tightly on the crown and adorned with embellishments or flowers. Her look is always simple but chic with one major statement piece, can't go wrong.

Taylor Swift always looks like she walked out of a fairy tale, whimsical and romantic. She likes to adorn her textured ringlets with rhinestone-encrusted bands and colorful flower headbands. Ever the role model for soft pretty hairstyles we can learn a thing or two from Ms. Swift.

On the edgier side we have Mary Kate Olsen who is quite the head-to-toe fashionista. If you dare to wear it a la MK, here are a few headband ideas to get you started. She loves the more avant-garde designer looks and incorporates them into her daily casual wear for an eclectic statement. We've seen her introduce the turban{d} and style scarves in all sorts of headwear. She's taught us to forget about being matchy-macthy and just dress your mood!

Hippie-chic can't really be defined with out thinking of Ms. Barrymore. Her style changes so often it's hard to keep up but that's what makes it fun! She can be sleek and glamorous in an updo accessorized with a multiple-strand headband or totally free and bohemian in a skinny glittering elastic worn on the crown. She's all about mix-and-matching favorite pieces and experimenting with different styles and looks.

And lastly, my favorite, Ms. Stefani! What can't she pull off? She looks amazing in everything, it's insane haha. Proving that headbands aren't just for the twenty-somethings and making them look awesome. Whether she's rocking out in an old-school knotted bandanna or looking hella good in a luxurious velvet headband, she's continually inspiring all us Gwen-a-bes.

I haven't been this excited about a new M.A.C collection in a long time. 4 Updos from Opening Ceremony's Resort 2012 Lookbook

I was so enamored with the pretty 60's-inspired updos from Opening Ceremony's 2012 Lookbook that I thought I'd post some quick how-to's for 4 of the looks. These easy, no muss updos are great for Summer because the disheveled look is what makes them unique. They can be styled with anything from little girl barrettes, pins {think, your favorite bands!} and colorful hair extensions or fabric that can be braided into the hair.

How-To:

1. Braided Crown:

* Create a deep side part, then make a side braid on the side with the most hair. Weave in fabric or brightly dyed hair extensions {doing this will add length.} Tie off with a small elastic, then bring across to the opposite side of your head and pin down behind your ear.

2. Side Top Knot:

* Tie hair into a slightly off-centered ponytail then tease hair. Wrap ends around base of elastic and pin. Pull out loose fringe around ears and neck and sweep bangs to the side.

3. Side Pony Tail w/ Pins:

* Side part hair and divide into top and bottom sections. Tease the top half at the crown then bring into a low side pony tail. Tease only the base of the pony and comb the ends through. Adorn with your favorite pins.

4. Messy Bun w/ Barrettes:

* Tease crown and create a messy low bun {or better yet, two small ones} at the base of the nape. Bring forward loose fringe and bangs, secure with plenty of small plastic barrettes.

This Summer it's all about braids, celebrities and bloggers alike are turning to this hair style for chic looks for both day and night. Dare to Wear: Long Nails for Fall

Super long to be exact. They were spotted on the Fall runways for Joanna Mastroianni {above}, Emanuel Ungaro and Jason Wu not to mention celebs like Katy Perry and Beyonce have been endorsing them. If there's one area of beauty where I should learn to take my own advice more often from it's sun protection. I'll be the first to admit I love laying out and being tan even, if that means occasionally laying in those cancer light boxes {I know, so bad!} I know better than that, I know I don't want leathery wrinkled skin when I'm 40! Repeat after me, there is no such thing as a healthy tan {except the kind you fake that comes in a bottle, then you're all good} Through the years I've come across a lot of information about SPF, sun damage, UV rays and sun protection products and thought it was a good time as any to tell you about it. It's quite scary what sun exposure can do to our skin over time. Irreversible damage like sun spots, photo-damage, crepey skin and wrinkles, premature aging and sunburns are just some of the consequences of too much sun exposure. Not to mention the worst of the worst, skin cancer.

It may seem like a lot to read through but you'll be glad you did, I promise. I want you to know the basics of SPF to clear up any confusion there might be about sun protection. Hope this helps!

SPF 101:

*First thing's first- Of course I'm going to say avoid prolonged exposure to the sun... {ahhemm, even though I won't always take my own advice -tisk, tisk.} This means stay in the shade, wear a hat, sunglasses, whatever to protect your skin. Oh, and as an incentive to stay out of the rays- heat is what fades hair color, gasp!

*Where do I need it?

Everywhere. Any exposed skin needs sunscreen. That includes neck, ears {I'm guilty of neglecting my poor ears, are you?}, chest, tops of hands and scalp {guilty, again.} There is no such thing as an SPF for hair, at least not yet. So don't buy into those sunscreen hair products. However, there are sprays like the Shiseido one listed below, that can be sprayed on scalp and body. Sweet.

*How much is enough?

One full ounce {a full shot glass} of sunscreen needs to be applied to the body in order to get the full protection offered from the product. And a teaspoon for the face. Yep, a full teaspoon. Slather that stuff on!

* How often do I apply?

Sunscreen needs to be applied every 2 hours. It does fade and rub off when we sweat. Apply after swimming, everyone should know that though.

*What the heck does SPF stand for and what do the numbers mean?

SPF= Sun Protection Factor. The SPF number measures how much the product shields UVB rays.

"A sunscreen’s SPF number is calculated by comparing the time needed for a person to burn unprotected with how long it takes for that person to burn wearing sunscreen. So a person who turns red after 20 minutes of unprotected sun exposure is theoretically protected 15 times longer if they adequately apply SPF 15."

*What's the difference between UVB/UVA rays are?

UVB= Ultraviolet B radiation, the sun's shorter-wave rays that cause burns. Think, U V Burns.

UVA= Ultraviolet A radiation, the deep-penetrating rays that cause aging over time. Think, U V Ages.

*What's the truth behind the numbers?

All the SPF number wars, like SPF 75, 85, 95 and even 100+ are pretty much bogus! Anything over 50+ {the FDA has yet to set it as the cap off number} is marginal protection. Brands make it up to make people think they are getting double the protection giving people a false sense of security. It can be very confusing but you're safe with anything from a 15-50 SPF. This all depends of course on how easily/quickly you burn. The higher the number does not equal the better the coverage nor the longer the wear.

"Far from offering double the blockage, SPF 100 blocks 99 percent of UVB rays, while SPF 50 blocks 98 percent. (SPF 30, that old-timer, holds its own, deflecting 96.7 percent)"

* How can I get full protection?
No sunscreen, not even 100+ can guarantee 100% protection. No product like that exists, sadly. So for now we have to try our best to protect our skin with what we have on the market.

Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated while protecting it from the sun. Drink lots of water {that's a no-brainer} I love coconut juice too and moisturize like crazy leading up to Summer or a vacation. Buy products with vitamin E {anti-oxidant} and hyaluronic acid which moisturizes skin and helps reduce wrinkles. Because we perspire a lot in the Summer and I'm guessing we all want to stay as pimple-free as possible, buy only non-comedogenic products, those that do not clog pores.

What if I've already been frying my skin...what can I do after prolonged sun exposure? First of all, don't freak out because this accounts for everyone. Luckily it's never too early to do something about it. Get a good sunscreen that agrees with your skin type, one that's lightweight, non oily and doesn't leaves a film, ew. I'm using Eucerin Everyday Protection right now and love it.

It's important to use your sunscreen before any other makeup, you want it to be the first product directly on the skin. And even though most foundations now-a-days have an SPF, we don't slather on enough product to get the full protection so don't count on your makeup as your number one defense strategy.

There are seriously countless products in tons of different applications- lotions, gels, sprays that you can try. Don't forget about your scalp, chest, tops of hands and lips {my friend Brittany swears by EOS's Lemon Drop SPF 15 lip balm!} Make sure you cover all the bases. Skin tells all, I know I don't want to look older than I really am.

And as for refreshing and replenishing the skin? For that much needed TLC, enter all the nutritious and delicious products! Oooh yeah, the rich shea and cocoa butters, luscious hair masks and oils {I absolutely love Argan oil (found in Moroccan Oil) or should I say, my hair loves it} skin-quenching mineral facial sprays {I always use MAC's Fix+ to prep and then set my makeup but also as a hydrating mist} and Oh, so smooth lip conditioners. After sun products help replenish sun burned skin by replacing mush-needed moisture with natural ingredients like cucumber and aloe that calms, and cools, gets rid of redness and helps heal burns. For an extra cool burst put lotions, cremes and sprays in the fridge before application, ahhhh.

Neutrals are big for Summer because they're great to layer on in light-weight breezy fabrics, day or night looks and plus they're easy to mix and match, bonus. One of the hottest shoe trends is the leather cut-out platform and holy shoe obsession, do I love it! Platforms alone are enough of a statement trend for the Summer but add leather cut-outs in intricate designs and they're irresistible! These sky-high shoes in neutral/nude tones are flattering on everyone, extending the legs and adding lots of height. They go with everything too- jeans, mid-length and maxi skirts and shorts. My favorite are the Free people lace-up wedge and those amazing perforated L.A.M.B platforms. Wear them with a white outfit for to show off that tan you've been working so hard on.

I know I'm not the only one that's loving the layered bracelets trend for the season. Whether they're stacked bangles in gold or silver, beads, chain links or braided friendship bracelets the more of them the better. I have a collection of braided leather, colorful braided thread and beaded ones that I like to wear every day.

Wear the neon thread bracelets at the beach or with a flowy maxi skirt, they look great with native prints. Stack thick and thin bangles in silver or gold for a night out, they dress up any outfit. For that gypsy-boho vibe layer a mix of your favorites and pair them with strands of long layered necklaces. Go bold and and throw on some rings too!

Just a little hair inspiration to kick off Summer with! I'm still loving my dark hair but sometimes I crave the ombre look again. But not too light at the ends, I don't think I'll ever go back to being a blonde. All though I totally admire it, it's too high-maintenance on me not too mention damaging.
